Polymer Compounding and Injection Moulding Services

Our Polymer Compounding and Injection Moulding Services uses a combination of compounding and injection moulding in one single process, two vital services to the polymer industry, ITA Labs can offer opportunities for improving the mechanical properties of injection moulded parts. As one of only a few UK companies to offer this combined service on a small scale, we can provide injection moulded parts for mechanical and fire testing. This is particularly useful for materials development.

If you’re looking for a polymer compounding and injection moulding service, ITA Labs’ UK Laboratory is extremely experienced and has the expertise to help you interpret the results, whilst providing a fast turnaround at very competitive rates.

Techniques available within our polymer compounding and injection moulding service:

Twin Screw Extruder
The 16mm co-rotating twin-screw extruder offers a highly effective means of compounding powered, granulated and liquid additives into polymer materials (primarily thermoplastics)

Two Roll Mill
This method is for compounding additives into elastomeric and certain thermoplastic polymer materials, and for forming the resulting material into a thin sheet for subsequent moulding for testing

Injection Moulding
The polymer is charged into the hopper, from which it feeds through a heated barrel, and is finally injected via a nozzle into the mould cavity

Compression Moulder
Polymeric materials (thermoplastic, thermosetting or elastomeric) are compression moulded by being placed in an open mould that is subsequently closed and subjected to pressure, wherein the molten polymer flows and fills the mould cavity.

High Shear Mixers
Incorporation of powered and liquid additives into thermosetting polymer resins is effectively achieved using high shear mechanical mixers. Resin formulations are then catalysed and poured into RTV silicone rubber moulds, where they cure to form rigid plastics.
