Counterfeit Components Testing

Counterfeit Components Testing – Both the complexities of the electronics supply chain and the ingenuity of the counterfeiter means it can be particularly difficult to identify counterfeit electronic components without the right equipment. Your supplier may indeed have unwittingly supplied you with counterfeit components.

Counterfeit Components TestingThere are lots of reasons for needing to verify components and we can help you find the most cost-effective approach to counterfeit components testing.

ITA Labs can also offer non-destructive testing methods, where they are appropriate for your needs. The team of electronics experts at the ITA Labs is supported by a well-equipped chemical and metallurgical analysis laboratory with more than half a million pounds worth of electronics counterfeit test equipment, including Dage X-Ray equipment.

See how powerful the X-Ray Equipment can be in identifying counterfeiting in this short video

We can also decapsulate and inspect the surface of the chip die under magnification, but this is destructive and more labour intensive so it is considered a last resort in case X-ray is inconclusive.

There have been an increased number of enquiries from component distributors who have thousands of units that need to be checked. Under the AS6081 guidelines, only a representative sample needs to be looked at. As an example, a typical test package could comprise of microscopic inspection on 122 parts, X-ray on 45 parts and decapsulation on a 3 parts. In all cases, we will work with the customer to determine the best combination of tests based on particular component type and volume.

We would be delighted to give you a tour of our UK laboratory facilities and in particular, how we carry out electronics counterfeit testing projects.

If you’re looking for a counterfeit components testing service, ITA Labs’ UK Laboratory is highly experienced and has the expertise to help you interpret the results, whilst providing a reliable service and fast turnaround at very competitive rates.
